FULL DAY VOLTERRA & SAN GIMIGNANO
Private Experience
Our trip starts with driving towards Volterra, through the scenic “Via del Sale”.
When Volterra fell under Florence (1472) the natural resources of the territory were directed along the road Volterra-Valdelsa-Florence, called “Via del sale“, which would later become one of the most important commercial axes of the Grand Duchy.
In Volterra, the ancient Velathri, you will have free time for walking along the streets of the historical centre, visiting the town’s famous Etruscan museum, the still standing millennia old Etruscan arch, the Roman theatre and the other monuments of town.
After spending time visiting Volterra, we make our way to a small family run farm or agriturismo to enjoy your lunch accompanied by the refreshing Vernaccia white wine.
After lunch we continue to the fascinating town of San Gimignano, one of the most characteristic of Tuscany Hill-Towns with its many austere medieval towers that defiantly survived the centuries and are still standing today.
It has recently been recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site as a testimony of medieval architecture.
Here you can walk along the ancient route of the Via Francigena, the main route to Rome for travelers and pilgrims of all Europe. Today again the bustling San Gimignano flourishes with artisanal boutiques of the local trades and stores selling the towns ‘red gold’, the saffron spice and the centuries old Vernaccia white wine.

We could write how amazing our trips are and how you should book with us. But we prefer word of mouth recommendations. Given how much importance we place on creating the best day out for the enjoyment of our individual clients, their testimonies speak louder than any words we could say.
Love Tuscany – WTA is fantastic!
My wife and I did our first trip to Italy as a bucket list vacation in late May. We spent a total of 10 days in this fabulous country. We did a private wine tour with WTA hosted by Alessandra. We went to three fabulous wineries in the Chianti Classico region and had the best time. It was definitely the highlight of our trip. Alessandra was an awesome host. She picked us up in Florence, did the tour on the first day, picked us up in Sienna the next afternoon and then accomodated a last minute visit to a fourth small organic winery before dropping us at our hotel in Florence. We will definitely be back and will look forward to exploring the other wine regions in Tuscany with Ale. Thanks so much Ale… when we look at our pictures from that day, we can’t help but smile!! Jeff and Beth.
Best part of our trip to Italy!
This trip was in March (2017) so I am seriously late in writing this review, but the fact that it still stands out in my memory as being so fantastic should say something!!
Simone was our guide and we cannot rave about him enough. He picked us up in a Mercedes Van at our hotel in Florence – (perfectly on time) and took us up to the David statue to stop and take a picture of beautiful Florence on our way to Chianti Country!
March was still dormant (and slow) season, so the vines were not flourishing yet but still it was 70-degrees C (21-degrees F) sunny and beautiful! Plus we had undivided attention which made us feel like celebrities!
Stop1-Casa Emma winery for cellar tour and wine/EVO/Balsamic vinegar tasting.
Our hostess could not have been more in LOVE with wine and EVO so it made the experience really something!
Stop2-Querceto winery for lunch with tasting. This lunch was the best we had in Italy. Pumpkin Truffle Lasagna! UGH So amazing. Our host was terrific as well – even gave us a sample of his Grappa which we had never had!
Stop3-Monterinaldi boutique winery for tour and more tasting! Beautiful grounds! Interestingly, they store their wine in concrete casks!
We paid 150 euros pp and felt it was right on point for everything we experienced. I imagine the tour could occur rain or shine as we didn’t really explore anything outdoors.
Overall, simply a tremendous experience!
Amazing Private Wine Tour
I can’t say enough about Alessandra with Wine Tour Adventure. We visited Florence and I wanted to do a full day wine tour, but I wanted it to be private and where I wanted to go not where a tour bus was going. I was lucky to stumble upon Wine Tour Adventure through all the amazing reviews Alessandra has received. From the minute I contacted her everything went easy and fabulous. She picked us up from directly from our hotel in Florence, and we were on our way. She chose three great vineyards, all with different elements to each. She set up a winery that did wine, balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil tasting. It was gorgeous! She also set up a lunch at a vineyard with wine pairings, everything was fantastic. Besides the actual tastings we had an amazing day driving through Tuscany; we had great conversation. She is very knowledgeable on Italian wine, and taught us a lot!!! She even took us to her favorite gelato place in the hills of Tuscany. We had a great great day!! Can’t wait to go back so she can show us other regions of wine.
