Discover one of the most beautiful corners of southern Tuscany on a private journey through the Crete Senesi and Val d’Orcia, combining spectacular landscapes, Renaissance history, authentic local traditions, food and wine.

Your day takes you from the rolling hills and cypress-lined roads of the Tuscan countryside to the elegant Renaissance town of Pienza and the historic hilltop town of Montepulciano.

As this is a fully private experience, the itinerary can be adapted according to your pick-up location, interests, pace and the availability of the places we visit.

A SCENIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE CRETE SENESI & VAL D’ORCIA

The journey is already part of the experience.

Leaving the main roads behind, we travel through the characteristic landscapes of the Crete Senesi, with their soft rolling hills and changing colours, before continuing towards the UNESCO World Heritage landscape of the Val d’Orcia.

Whenever time and weather allow, we can stop at particularly scenic viewpoints for photographs and simply take a moment to enjoy the countryside.

This is the Tuscany of postcards: winding country roads, cypress trees, vineyards, golden fields and medieval hilltop towns.

PIENZA – THE IDEAL RENAISSANCE TOWN

Our journey continues to Pienza, one of the most fascinating towns in the Val d’Orcia.

Originally known as Corsignano, the town was transformed in the 15th century by Pope Pius II, who wanted to redesign his birthplace according to the humanist ideals of the Renaissance.

The result was one of the earliest examples of a town planned according to Renaissance principles and what became known as the “Ideal City.”

Take time to explore the historic centre, admire the Cathedral and the Romanesque Church of Corsignano, stroll along the panoramic streets and discover small shops featuring local crafts and traditional products.

From the town’s terraces and panoramic walkways, you can enjoy beautiful views across the Val d’Orcia.

LUNCH & THE TRADITIONS OF PECORINO DI PIENZA

A journey through this part of Tuscany would not be complete without experiencing its local food traditions.

We continue to a family-owned dairy farm, where you can enjoy a traditional lunch prepared mainly with fresh local ingredients.

Here, you can discover the traditions behind the production of Pecorino di Pienza, one of the area’s most characteristic products, and learn more about the rural lifestyle that has shaped the Val d’Orcia for generations.

Weather permitting, lunch can be served on a panoramic terrace overlooking the valley.

The experience may include local wine, Pecorino cheese and other Tuscan products, together with extra virgin olive oil.

MONTEPULCIANO – HISTORY, VIEWS & VINO NOBILE

In the afternoon, continue to Montepulciano, one of Tuscany’s most impressive hilltop towns.

Built along a steep ridge, Montepulciano offers spectacular views towards the Tuscan and Umbrian countryside.

Its history reflects the influence of both medieval Siena and Renaissance Florence, which can still be seen in the architecture of its historic centre.

Take a walk through the town and reach Piazza Grande, the heart of Montepulciano, surrounded by elegant historic buildings.

The town is also famous for its Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, one of Tuscany’s most prestigious wines.

UNDERGROUND CELLARS & VINO NOBILE

Montepulciano’s wine tradition is deeply connected to the historic cellars hidden beneath the town.

During your visit, discover one of these fascinating underground spaces, carved directly into the hillside and used for generations for the production and ageing of local wines.

The cellar visit is followed by a tasting of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, offering an opportunity to discover the wines and traditions that make this area so special.
